Angelo's barber is also his client. He had a credit score over 700, and he paid cash for everything.
That sounds responsible. It is. But Angelo showed him there was another option he wasn't using.
What does it mean to use credit as leverage?
Leverage means using strong credit and the right financing so your own cash keeps working for you.
Angelo puts it simply: if you have $100K saved and spend $100K, your cash is gone. With strong credit and the right financing, you may be able to keep more of that cash while you pay over time.
Good credit isn't just about a score. It's about options, and knowing how to use them responsibly.
When does financing make more sense than cash?
Financing tends to make sense when all of these are true:
- The rate is low. Strong credit is what gets you the low rate in the first place.
- You can afford the payment easily. Leverage only works when the payment never becomes a problem.
- The cash has a job. An emergency fund, a down payment on a home, or money you're putting into a business.
That last point is where it matters most for business owners. Funding for newer businesses usually runs through your personal credit, so the same strong profile that gets you a good car rate helps you get approved for business funding.
When is paying cash still the better call?
Cash wins in plenty of situations:
- When the rate is high. Expensive interest erases the benefit of keeping your cash.
- When the payment would stretch you. A missed payment costs more than the interest ever would.
- When a mortgage application is close. A new loan adds an inquiry and a payment right when an underwriter is reading your file. Here's how inquiries actually affect you.
Leverage is a tool. Used carelessly, it is just debt.
Why does this matter even with good credit?
Plenty of people come to Angelo with good scores and a different question: how do I use this?
That was his barber. The score was already there. What changed was knowing how to put it to work, and they have worked together ever since.
If your credit is already strong, a free call is about strategy, not cleanup. If it isn't there yet, the plan starts with getting it there. Either way, every file is different, and the call is where you find out what fits yours.
